Despite the economic challenges facing modern consumers there is a new club of six-figure cars flooding the global automotive market. This club demands uncompromising performance, mind-blowing technology, and a stunning appearance. With enough thrust and propulsion to rival that of a combat fighter jet and top speeds that exceeds 200 mph, key representatives of this exclusive club are expected to be quite a hit when displayed during the 2014 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) opening April 16 and 17 with media days and April 18 to 27 to the public. This show, held annually from just prior to Easter weekend until the following weekend, marks the climax of the spring auto show season. The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, located in Manhattan between 34th and 40th Streets on 11th Avenue, will again play host to the event as it has since 1987.

Here is a rundown of some of the exotic cars expected at the 2014 NYIAS:

2014 Bugatti Veyron

2014 Bugatti VeyronBugatti, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, is a French company based in Molsheim, Alsace. The Veyron won worldwide fame with a record setting top speed record of just over 267 mph for a production vehicle. Even though this record has been surpassed by an American supercar called the Hennessey Venom, the Veyron still holds the official world’s record for fastest production automobile due to differing opinions regarding the definition of a production vehicle. The Veyron is a mid-engine powered four-wheel drive coupe with a removable top. It is powered by a massive 8.0-liter W-16-cylinder engine that is equipped with four-turbochargers, 3-air to liquid heat exchangers, and 3-radiators. A horsepower rating of 1,001 and a gross vehicle weight of 4,162-pounds equals an awesome power-to-weight-ratio of .241 with a sticker price of around $1.5-million.

2014 Koenigsegg Agera R

2014 Koenigsegg Agera R 1This is the baddest car of which you have probably never heard. Produced by a Swedish automaker the Agera R (Agera meaning to take action and R meaning Racing) is a mid-engine powered all-wheel drive car which is one of the most expensive automobiles on the market at $1.6 to $1.7-million. The Agera R, equipped with a pressure sensitive aerodynamic rear wing, holds the world record for accelerating from 0 to 300 km/h in just 14.53-seconds, besting the previous record of 14.6-seconds held by the Bugatti Veyron. When outfitted with the twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8, the Agera R produces 1,124-hp and can achieve 0 to 62-mph in only 3.1-seconds.

2014 Bentley Continental GT Speed

2014 Bentley Continental GT SpeedThe British entry to this supercar segment is the somewhat conventional, and coincidentally more luxurious, Bentley Continental GT Speed. It is available as either a coupe or convertible with ample attitude, racetrack performance, and everyday practicality. The color possibilities alone are worthy of your consideration. With an endless array including such hits as “Thunder”, “Extreme Silver”, “Dragon Red”, and “Apple Green” to select from, as well as a diverse assortment of premium interior trappings, there is bound to be a combination to suit your fancy. Under the hood a 616-hp 6.0-liter W12 engine with twin-turbochargers sends the hoof beats to all-four-wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. This super-luxurious coupe can be yours for the bargain price of only $225,000.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06Not to be outdone, the American high-performance contingency will be well represented by the latest Chevrolet supercar, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. As one of the most powerful Corvettes ever this two-passenger coupe has notched out its position as a legitimate force to be reckoned with. Despite a power-to-weight-ratio of just .206, the Zo6 is kept on the ground with no less than three adaptive aerodynamic systems, making it one of the most advanced production cars in the world. This is basically a competition racing vehicle in street trim with a 625-hp supercharged V8 engine and your choice of an eight-speed automatic or a seven-speed manual gearbox that can be purchased for approximately $105k. This car stole the hearts of thousands during the Detroit International Auto Show and the reception in New York should be no less grand.

2014 Lamborghini Aventador

2014 Lamborghini AventadorI have never heard a single person say, “I don’t like Lamborghinis.” The fact of the matter is that everybody loves the Lambos; from professional athletes with their multi-bazillion dollar contracts to plastic surgeons in their stucco palaces — everybody loves this bodacious Italian supercar called the Aventador. What is not to love? It is after all one of the most remarkable production vehicles ever offered. Named after a particularly valiant Spanish fighting bull, the Aventador is capable of rocketing from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.0-seconds with a top speed of 217 mph. That is really, really fast. Thanks to high-revving naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine, that churns out 700-hp, and lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque construction, the Aventador continues to raise the bar in performance engineering.
