TLX HeaderHonda Motor Company’s luxury line is acting on their resolution to clean house by introducing the all-new production ready Acura TLX during the 2014 New York International Auto Show, opening April 16 and 17 with media days and continuing from the 18 through 27 with the public show. Acura has big plans to simplify its line of sedans by getting shed of the compact Acura TSX and mid-sized Acura TL. Ideally, the 2015 Acura TLX will bridge the gap between the two by positioning itself strategically in between. The TLX is almost 4-inches shorter than the TL, yet it has the exact same wheelbase so that interior spaciousness won’t be compromised. Acura reports that the all-new TLX should begin arriving in U.S. showrooms in the second-half of this year.

TLX Fr3New “Jewel-Eye” headlights will be offered as standard equipment, along with a forward collision warning system with mitigated braking, a lane departure and correction system, a blind-spot monitoring system with a visual warning displayed in the driver’s side view mirror, and adaptive cruise control. Power accessories, power adjustable seating, premium audio with Bluetooth capability, cruise control, and dual-zone climate control are all expected to be offered on the new TLX.

TLX SideEngine choices will include a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that will be mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission or a 3.5-liter V6 that is capable of producing 310-hp. The V6 engine will be coupled with an all-new nine-speed automatic gearbox. No fuel efficiency numbers are available as of yet. The V6 will also be available with an all-wheel drive configuration.

The TLX will be equipped with a four-wheel independent suspension system with double-wishbone front and multi-link rear setups. Anti-sway bars are fitted on both the front and rear. Electronic proportional power steering and Precision All-Wheel Steer will help the RLX to smooth out the corners in the clinch.

TLX Rr3As usual the Acura TLX will feature cutting edge safety features, including: dual front side mounted airbags, 3-point rear center seat belt, electronic stability and traction control, electronic brake force distribution, front and rear tire pressure monitoring, three-rear head rests, child safety locks on the rear doors, front and rear head restraint airbags, child seat anchors, emergency interior trunk release, front seat belt pre tensioners, occupant sensing front airbag deactivation, remote engine de-mobilizer, four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated front rotors remote anti-theft alarm, and four-wheel antilock brakes.

TLX ShowThe Acura TLX prototype was initially unveiled during the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, where it was outfitted with deeply contoured free-flowing fender treatments and numerous chrome accents. Look for those small trinkets to have disappeared from the production version that will debut during the New York International Auto Show. Acura has wasted no time in preparing the TLX for production, which is expected to take place in their Marysville, Ohio assembly plant. This illustrates Acura’s commitment to build cars that will be sold to Americans using American labor with a focus on economically troubled areas of the U.S.
