Five Cool Concepts Debut in the Big Apple

NYIAS HeaderThe 2014 New York International Auto Show is scheduled for April 18 through 27, on the Island of Manhattan at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Standing out in a sea of exemplary vehicles will be five of the coolest concept cars that ever rolled across a stage. Some of these concepts have already been revealed to the public but it should be interesting to note what (if any) design changes have been made to ready these exotic looking vehicles for production. Cadillac, Ford, Kia, Nissan, and Toyota all plan to display the best and boldest they have to offer. So without further ado, let’s take a look at five of the coolest concepts headed for the Big Apple.

2014-Cadillac-Elmiraj-FB-3North American luxury automaker, Cadillac, plans to display their most popular concept vehicle. The top-tier, $80k Cadillac Elmiraj Concept began touring the prestigious Concours d’Elegance circuit last August. It features a long, low, and menacing stance combined with classic Cadillac styling, that GM hopes will give them an edge over high-tone European sports cars. The Elmiraj is slated for release during the 2016 model year. A production ready Elmiraj will likely offer you a choice of either a turbocharged V6 or V8. The Elmiraj Concept is equipped with a 500+ horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Hopefully it will retain most of that power in the production version.

ford-edge-conceptThe Ford Edge Concept represents only a slight design change for this already popular SUV Crossover. Revised horizontal headlights and a body side crease are among the biggest changes in the well patterned plan of evolution for this SUV introduced during the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Advances in safety features such as advanced parking assist, lane departure warning, mitigated braking, forward collision avoidance, and automatic cruise control are expected along with the introduction of Ford’s new engine line. Included are the thrifty new EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder and powerful twin-turbocharged V6.

KIa-GT4-concept-carThis Korean automaker introduced the 2+2 Kia GT-4 Stinger Concept, during the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, to rave reviews. It offers a sporty exterior appearance, including a unique paint theme, with all of the latest audio, connectivity, and passenger comfort amenities. A turbocharged four-cylinder racing engine that churns out 315-hp doesn’t hurt, either. The Stinger Concept could possibly be nearing production readiness with a focus on North American consumers in the near future.

Nissan Sport Sedan ConceptThe Nissan Sports Sedan Concept is expected to become the 2016 Nissan Maxima Sport Sedan. It too was unveiled during the 2014 NAIAS where it won the heart of many onlookers. Its dazzling appearance includes a futuristic aerodynamic design with deeply chiseled lines and a low center of gravity. Nissan stands in need of a method to add a degree of separation between the Altima and Maxima and this concept could be the ticket. A high-performance all-wheel drive configuration with a multi-turbocharged V6 engine would contribute, as well.

toyota-ft-1-concept-7The Toyota FT-1 Concept is rumored to be the second coming of the beloved (and lost) Supra. When this thing was unveiled, at the 2014 NAIAS, Toyota executives proclaimed a new era in high-performance for the Japanese giant. We hope that Toyota will begin to reveal more details about the development of this car with a high-powered turbocharged V6/hybrid design to rival the likes of the Nissan GT-R, or even the Porsche 918 (for much less money).
