BMW M760i xDrive Profile

The introduction of the 2017 BMW M760i xDrive marks the first time the BMW brand has an M car in the 7 Series line. Look for power from a 610hp, V-12 engine.

What Is It?

As if the titanic BMW Alpina B7 xDrive wasn’t enough, the BMW M760i xDrive cranks up the performance to 610hp from the most powerful production V-12 engine BMW has ever produced. It’s the first 7 Series to ever wear an M badge, and it’s also the first V-12 engine ever to integrate with M Power.

BMW M760i xDrive side action

The 2017 M760i xDrive appears to be more about luxury than the BMW Alpina B7 xDrive does. If you don’t see yourself hitting the Alpina B7’s 193 mile per hour top speed, the M760i xDrive’s 155 miles per hour might be more to your taste.

The turbochargers in the M760i xDrive are mon0-scroll components, sitting outside of the two rows of cylinders, rather than within the V, like the 4.4-liter V-8 in the 750i. Two air-to-water intercoolers reduce compressed air temperature for maximum intake charge density. A second water pump manages intercooler coolant, and heat exchangers sit directly on the intake manifold.

The M sport exhaust system is as large in diameter as possible, and routes as straight as possible to reduce backpressure. A “flap activation system” allows drivers to experience a wide range of exhaust tones, from super-quiet to full-on V-12 roar.

The 8-speed Steptronic Sport Automatic transmission features shift paddles on the steering wheel. In manual mode, the transmission holds the selected gear even as the engine bounces off the rev limiter.

Active Comfort Drive with Road Preview links the two-axle air suspension to the Dynamic Damper Control system, providing world-class comfort and low vibration levels. Updated Dynamic Drive works to reduce roll at the front and rear axles for dynamic driving characteristics, but supremely comfortable suspension tuning.

The M Aerodynamic Package includes a new front fascia with two large air intakes to the left and right, replacing the 750i’s fog lamps. Cerium Gray trim replaces chrome at the upper edge of the air intakes, the grille bars, lower edge of the doors, and door handle trim. The 2017 M760i xDrive rides on 20-inch M light-alloy, double-spoke wheels in matte-finish Cerium Grey. The M rear spoiler optimizes airflow.

Inside, look for Fine Brushed Aluminum with an illuminated V12 logo, an exclusive M leather steering wheel, Pearl Gloss Chrome buttons on the steering wheel mounted controls, stainless steel M pedals and M driver’s footrest, and Piano Finish Black aaround the selector lever and iDrive Controller.
