NY Auto Show 2015: Lincoln Continental Concept

Posted by

Lincoln unveiled its new Continental Concept ahead of the 2015 New York Auto Show, and it’s STUNNING. If it can make it to production — which we hear is a distinct possibility — it will catapult Lincoln from an also-ran purveyor of gussied-up Fords to the premier American luxury brand it once was.

Outside, the Continental Concept is all-new, with a polished aluminum grille that you should expect to see in all of Lincoln’s products going forward. E-Latch door handles allow for the Continental’s sides to be completely smooth, with the exception of the mirrors. Like custom cars have for years, the door handles are completely hidden and doors open at the push of a button.

LincolnContinentalConcept_03_RearTwenty-one inch wheels have painted inserts, and the headlamps are an LED matrix with laser assist high beams. The roof is made of SPD SmartGlass, which automatically tints at the touch of a button, rather than having a sliding shade. The tail lamps are full-width and feature light-through chrome technology.

An all-new, Lincoln-exclusive, 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 provides the power.

Inside, the Continental Concept is a gorgeous four-place executive car, featuring 30-way adjustable seats and soft-gold LED ambient lighting throughout. A chauffeur button folds the front passenger seat, allowing the right rear passenger to recline in full luxury.

A tablet-sized lap tray extends from the rear center console, providing a convenient place for reading. Mounted to both front seatbacks, Lincoln provides an exclusive travel bag for rear seat passengers, filled with luxury travel accessories.

Lincoln has been on the ropes for years and has a long track record of building amazing concepts that never see the light of day. With the Continental Concept, hopes are again high. If Lincoln can’t build this car, and in a hurry, it could be the end for the brand.
