Cars for Women – It’s Not One Size Fits All

There was a time men outnumbered women when it came to car buying. Today, it’s women who outnumber men and automakers are building a wide range of vehicles designed to appeal to those women. Whatever your priorities as a woman shopping for a new car, there’s a vehicle out there that’s perfect for you.

At the women-focused Heels and Wheels event in Santa Monica, California, a gathering of female automotive journalists was given the opportunity to drive some of those vehicles. Many different cars from many different companies, all hoping to attract the attention of female car buyers.

The choices included a minivan and it got plenty of love from the assembled crew. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, which gets 82 MPGe, is a minivan for today’s families. The available rear-seat entertainment system with two 10-inch touchscreens keeps the kids happy while the built-in vacuum makes it easy to clean up all those stray snacks under the seats. It’s priced from $39,995.

Parked right alongside that minivan was the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali. This full-size truck includes an available MultiPro tailgate with six different positions, including a standing workstation. It also has a luxurious and upscale interior that lets you enjoy the ride with a starting price of $67,735.

There were sporty little choices, too, like the all-new 2019 Mazda Mazda3 sedan, which comes in with a starting price of $21,000. It’s small, but comfortable with redesigned seats that hold you in place on the corners without being stiff. There’s also a choice of drive modes that let you take full advantage of its refined driving dynamics.

The 2019 Honda Civic Coupe was at the event with a peppy 174-horsepower engine and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 33 MPG combined. It saves you money at the pump, especially if you’re a long distance commuter, and has a modest starting price of $20,650

Crossovers are an increasingly popular segment and the event showcased quite a few choices in this category. There were luxury models like the all-new 2019 Lexus UX, which targets the first-time luxury buyer with a starting price of $32,000 and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 39 MPG combined. There’s also a hybrid model available for an additional $2,000.

A more affordable crossover can be found in the 2019 Hyundai Kona which comes in at $19,990. It offers a wide range of standard safety, including forward collision avoidance assist and lane keeping assist as well as a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive across the trim range.

Get your performance fix with the 2019 Jaguar F-Pace SVR and its 550-horsepower supercharged engine. This is the most powerful F-Pace available with a starting price of $79,000 and a rich interior. It’s solidly in luxury car territory, but costs less than you might expect to pay for a Jaguar.

A more affordable luxury choice is the 2019 Cadillac XT4 at $34,795. This is an all-new compact SUV with 237 horsepower and a smooth 9-speed automatic. It offers a balance of style, comfort, and power at a more manageable price point.

The family sedan was also well-represented with vehicles including the 2019 Nissan Altima. Starting at $31,190, this roomy sedan is the first in the Nissan lineup with all-wheel drive. You can also go more upscale with a choice like the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport with its 400-horsepower engine and starting price of $56,900.

If you’re fortunate enough to have the budget, then check out the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. This is the most powerful production car Aston Martin has ever built and it absolutely coddles you in luxury with rich leather trims and elegant details throughout the interior. It will get your heart racing, too, with 715 horsepower under the hood, all for a starting price of $303,695.

It might seem these cars have nothing in common, and that’s the point. Today’s women shop for all kinds of cars from luxury to affordable, spacious to compact, sporty to practical. Each woman is different and there’s a car out there for every one.
