Tomorrow is Election Day and Uber and Lyft want to be sure you have a ride to the polls. Yes, it’s a darn contentious election, but it’s time to do your civic duty and cast your vote.
Uber announced last Thursday that they teamed up with Google on a special in-app feature for voters. It will help Uber users locate their polling location and hail a ride to that spot. The feature will be available anywhere Uber is available in the US.

An automatic pop-up notification will show whenever the Uber app is opened on Tuesday. It will remind people to get out and vote and include a link to find their local polling place. That link will take them to a webpage powered by Google. There they can enter an address and the app will show the designated polling stations along with the hours of operation. Users can then hail an Uber to take them off to vote.
There’s no discount or free ride, unless you’ve never used Uber. First-time users can use the promo code “VOTETODAY” and save $20 on their first ride.
Not to be outdone, Lyft announced its own promotion later the same day. Competition and the chance to one-up the other guy aren’t limited solely to politics. Lyft is offering a 45 percent discount on election day, with the odd amount selected in honor of our upcoming 45th President.
The discount isn’t for every ride you take that day, so don’t get too excited. It’s good from 7am to 8pm and is only good for one ride. That means you’ll have to pay your own way home after you spend the night out celebrating or crying into your beer depending on how you feel about the election’s outcome on Tuesday night.
The Lyft discount offer is available in the following 20 markets only.
- Atlanta
- Baltimore
- Boston
- Charlotte
- Chicago
- Dallas
- Denver
- Detroit
- Miami
- Minneapolis-St. Paul
- Nashville
- New Orleans
- NYC and New Jersey
- Orange County
- Philadelphia
- Phoenix
- Portland
- Raleigh
- San Diego
- Washington DC
Those who use Lyft received emails on Sunday to give them access to the discount. There’s also a first-time user promotion. Enter promotion code “NOVEMBER8TH” and you’ll save $5 off your first 10 rides.
Whether you take Uber or Lyft or drive yourself, make sure you get out and vote this Tuesday.
