Nissan is recalling almost a quarter millionĀ 2002-2003 Nissan Maxima, Pathfinder and Infiniti I35 and QX4 models, along with 2002-2004 Nissan Sentra and 2003 Infiniti FX vehicles to address a safety defect in the passenger side air bag.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect, which includes 226,326 cars, may produce “excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag.”
The recall updates passenger side front airbags that either came from the factory, or were replaced at some point.
Owners of those vehicles included in the recall will be notified. Your dealer will inspect the vehicle, and replace the inflator if it’s determined to be part of the recall, free of charge.
Recalls begin August 11, 2014, and owners can call Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.safercar.gov.
