Weekly Safety Recall Update - 7-15-15

You might say that this week’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall update pales in comparison to the last few weeks, but in fact it is not even a list – just one entry meets my criteria of over 100,000-units. You can visit the NHTSA website to check all of the safety recalls. You can even enter the vehicle identification number of your vehicle to see if it is currently under a recall.

Log onto BestRide.com early and often for the latest NHTSA recalls, automotive news and views, and millions of listings for new and used cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs. There is even an app for your phone, so you can keep track of all of your favorite vehicles.

Remember to check inside of the driver door jamb (most vehicles) to find the production date (Month/Year) of your vehicle. This can also help you to determine whether or not your ride is currently under a NHTSA safety recall.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V451000
Mazda Recall Campaign Number: 8515G

Vehicles Affected: Certain 2007-2014 Mazda CX-9 vehicles manufactured from October 24, 2006 through December 28, 2013. Approximately 193,484 vehicles are expected for inclusion in this recall campaign.

Cause: The affected vehicles have front suspension ball joints that may corrode from water leaking into the fitting.

Concern: Over time, the ball joint corrosion may result in the front lower control arm separating from the ball joint, causing a loss of steering control and increasing the risk of a motor vehicle crash.

Correction: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace both the left and right lower control arms, free of charge. In early September 2015, owners will be mailed an interim notification informing them of recall. When remedy parts are available, owners will be mailed a second notification. The recall will begin with model year 2007-2009 vehicles registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The second phase will be for model year 2010-2014 vehicles in the same states. Finally, all remaining vehicles will be remedied. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.
