The Queen’s New Range Rover is Way Cooler Than Your Car

Land Rover State Review Vehicle

Let’s pretend for a second that you are the Queen of England. You get to live in a fancy castle or three, have an endless supply of hats, and get your pick of any number of really nice cars for your daily travels. The latest set of royal wheels is a new Range Rover built specifically for reviewing the troops.

The Queen has been seen driving her own Jaguar and as a passenger in a chauffeured custom Bentley State Limousine, but those are for when she’s out on the streets of town. This latest addition to the royal fleet isn’t for day trips. It’s only for reviewing the troops during formal events. The back is open so that the Queen and her advisers can stand up and easily pass judgement as they roll by the assembled troops.

As Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Welsh Regiment, she presented New Colors in her new car while in Cardiff. The State Review Range Rover is a diesel hybrid and it’s the fourth State Review vehicle that Land Rover has provided to the monarchy. The very first vehicle provided by Land Rover was a 1953 Land Rover Series 1.

The long wheelbase Range Rover was designed by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations department, which I find disappointing and a little suspect. You can’t expect me to believe that Q wasn’t somehow involved in the development of this vehicle. There are bound to be a few buttons inside that deploy caltrops or at least spray a slick of oil to throw off anyone trying to pursue the Queen.

Jaguar Land Rover is the only company to hold all three Royal Warrants. This means they’re official for HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, and HRH The Prince of Wales. The monarchy is most approving of the company in general, recently awarding them the 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. Now that I think about it, that award probably rules chances of the new state vehicle spitting out an oil slick in its wake. Caltrops are still a possibility so I’m going to just believe they’re hidden inside somewhere.
