BUYER’S GUIDE: Best Aftermarket Tech

Posted by

2016-Chevrolet-SS-0With the recent developments in automotive technology, new vehicles have become smarter, safer, and more entertaining. Unfortunately, even if your vehicle is only a couple of years old, you may feel like you missed the boat in certain areas of automobile technology. So, what’s a person to do? Well you can either trade up or go out and get yourself some high-grade aftermarket tech items to make your car, truck, van, or SUV feel like a brand-new model.

Apple/Google Aftermarket Infotainment Systems

Aftermarket Infotainment SystemsIf you are finding yourself a little green around the gills (with envy) about the new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems that are being offered in new model automobiles, then go out and get yourself some aftermarket tech. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now compatible with Alpine and Pioneer stereos and it’s a sure bet that other stereo manufacturers will get on board. You can choose to go in a couple of different directions with this aftermarket option. If your ride already has a dash mounted LCD monitor, you might go with a single din aftermarket stereo and utilize the factory LCD monitor. If you don’t currently have an LCD monitor, you may choose to purchase a double din aftermarket stereo with a LCD display. The LCD monitor provides a format for displaying text messages, apps, music selections, podcasts, videos, etc. through your smartphone.

Viper Smartphone Remote Start Systems

Viper Remote Smartphone StartIt is getting quite chilly in my neck of the woods and I reside in a warm climate. One of the best things about my new Dodge Challenger SRT is the remote start system. If your vehicle doesn’t have one, then you may want to check out a Viper smartphone remote start system. Now, you can download an app on your phone that’ll allow you to locate your vehicle, track your vehicle, and even start your vehicle remotely from the comfort of your home. You can also program the vehicle to start automatically, depending upon your commuting habits. There’s even a way to keep tabs on your vehicle by tracking it using GPS. If you have a teen driver in your household, you can establish a safe zone and receive real time alerts if the rebellious teen over steps his/her bounds. You can even lock the vehicle down to prevent operation. There is typically a low monthly subscription fee ($4 to $9 per month) with this type of aftermarket tech.

The GoPro

GoProUnless you’ve been under a rock for the last few years, you have certainly heard of a little gadget called the GoPro. Most folks think that it is only a camera used by extreme athletes and street racers but this device has millions of practical uses. It can be used as a backup camera, then easily detached to capture the cute kids in the cockpit. The newer models also feature integrated WiFi and Bluetooth tethering, so you can use it wirelessly.
