2015 Buick Regal Front

Buick has been around for a lot of years and its seen a lot of changes. The first Buick in my memory was the 1970 Buick LeSabre my parents drove when I was a kid. The thing was a tank. It was great for New England winters and served us well for many years. The 2015 Buick Regal GS builds on that history with a thoroughly modern and luxurious sedan for today’s drivers.

If you haven’t been in a Buick since my parents’ old LeSabre cruised the roads, then you have no idea what the brand is about today. It’s fair to say that people think of it as their Dad’s car or, even worse, the car Grandpa used to drive. There was a time when that was true, but the Buick Regal is no has-been, and it shows off what the brand has done to change its image.

It is not a flashy sports car, but it is flashy. There is lots of chrome up front with a bold grille and a long nose. It’s also very elegant and looks every bit the posh luxury car. There are even 19″ alloy wheels and a rear spoiler to give it a little extra style. It looks a heck of a lot better than that old LeSabre and the interior is stunning.

This is where Buick’s hard work really shines through. The interior of the Regal GS is truly luxurious with leather sport seats that are heated and 8-way power adjustable. The driver also gets 2-way power lumbar support and a heated steering wheel. There’s dual zone climate control, sport alloy pedals, cruise control, and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

Take a seat and you will sink into those well-bolstered seats and be ready for a road trip. Rear passengers will be just as comfortable with room for three adults who won’t be squashed like sardines in a can. There’s a Bose 9-speaker sound system with Bluetooth wireless capability and AM/FM/CD/SiriusXM satellite radio to keep everyone entertained.

The big news this year is OnStar 4G LTE and a built-in wi-fi hotspot. These are subscription services that come with limited trials designed to get you hooked. I am a big fan of OnStar as I find it one of the easiest to use and most comprehensive driver assistance services. There are various levels available so you can choose to pare it down and save a few dollars. If you have teen drivers or are often on desolate roads, OnStar is a great idea and well worth the price.

The wi-fi hotspot is also a luxury that is quickly becoming a necessity. It can keep a car full of people connected on long trips and, if you’re on the road for business, it means you don’t have to pull into a random McDonald’s to get some work done.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine with 259 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It’s a responsive engine that leaves you feeling confident and in control. It’s also quiet, so even a heavy foot on the accelerator won’t have noise intruding into the cabin. It’s that whole luxury car thing. The world outside the windows stays outside the windows.
