PREVIEW: Watch the New Ford F-150 Raptor Tear it Up

Posted by

The all-new Ford F-150 Raptor is designed to be the gold standard in off-road pickup trucks. Legions of fans can’t wait to get a closer look, so Ford has released a fantastic video teaser.

They’re billing it as their best Raptor yet and to prove the point, they took it out into the Mojave Desert and put a professional driver behind the wheel on a closed course. That means you get to see it do all the stuff you’d do behind the wheel if you had the chance.

The choice of the Mojave Desert was no accident. It’s the same place where the Ford F-150 Raptor was tested to make sure it can handle whatever shenanigans you come up with in the real world.

The truck uses high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy, which helped it lose 500 pounds. They took away weight but added Fox Racing Shox to give the Raptor more suspension travel. There’s also new terrain management technology and an available Torsen front differential to make it an off-road monster.

Power for the Raptor comes from Ford’s second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost. It beats the old Raptor’s 411-horsepower, 434 lb-ft 6.2-liter V8, which was no slouch.

This video clip shows the Raptor throwing sand in its wake as it flies across the desert, high-speed donuts included. If you were undecided about buying a Raptor, this video will likely push you right over the edge.

It’s the first in a series of videos that Ford is releasing ahead of the Raptor’s on-sale date, which is currently set for fall 2016. A new video will be released every month, each showcasing a different aspect of the Raptor.

  • Video 1: F-150 Raptor’s jaw-dropping off-road agility and capability
  • Video 2: All-new BF Goodrich KO2 Tires
  • Video 3: Six preset driving modes that optimize F-150 Raptor’s performance for virtually every terrain
  • Video 4: Long-travel suspension that is the crown jewel of F-150 Raptor
  • Video 5: How great design enhances F-150 Raptor’s capability
  • Video 6: Ultimate off-road capability

That ought to be more than enough to convince every truck fan on the planet that they need to own the new Raptor. The only challenge is finding a way to pass the time until fall arrives. Just focus on enjoying the summer sun and before you know it the leaves will be falling and you’ll have your chance to get behind the wheel of your own Ford F-150 Raptor.
